Technisches Gebiet

[0001] Die Erfindung betrifft einen Wasserstoffmotor, allgemeiner formuliert, eine Verbrennungskraftmaschine für die Umwandlung von bei der Verbrennung eines Treibstoffes, insbesondere eines H2-O2 Gemisches frei werdender Energie in mechanische Arbeit. Zudem betrifft die Erfindung einen Wasserstoffgenerator, insbesondere zur Versorgung einer Verbrennungskraftmaschine mit einem H2-O2 Gemisch als Treibstoff. Der Wasserstoffgenerator hat eine Generatorkammer, in der mindestens zwei Elektroden angeordnet sind, die mit elektrischer Energie gespeist werden, um Wasser in der Generatorkammer elektrolytisch in H2 und O2 zu spalten.

Stand der Technik

[0002] Wasserstoff gilt als einer der vielversprechendsten Energieträger der Zukunft. Wasserstoff hat etwa die 2,6-fache Energiedichte von Benzin (auf die Masse bezogen). Wasserstoff lässt sich mit sehr hohen Wirkungsgraden sowohl elektrolytisch aus nahezu unbegrenzt zur Verfügung stehendem Wasser oder auch aus Biomasse durch das Kvaerner Verfahren erzeugen. Die im Wasserstoff gespeicherte Energie kann in Verbrennungskraftmaschinen in mechanische Arbeit oder durch eine Brennstoffzelle in elektrische Energie umgesetzt werden.

Darstellung der Erfindung

[0003] Der Erfindung liegt die Aufgabe zugrunde, eine Verbrennungskraftmaschine zur Umwandlung von in Wasserstoff gespeicherter chemischer Energie in mechanische Arbeit bereitzustellen.

[0004] Diese Aufgabe wird durch eine Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 1 gelöst. Vorteilhafte Ausgestaltungen der Erfindung sind in den Unteransprüchen angegeben.

[0005] Die Verbrennungskraftmaschine nach der Erfindung ist insbesondere zur Umwandlung von bei der Verbrennung eines H2-O2 Gemisches frei werdender Energie in mechanische Arbeit geeignet. Selbstverständlich können auch andere Treibstoffe in der Verbrennungskraftmaschine, die nachfolgend auch verkürzt als Wasserstoffmotor bezeichnet wird, verbrannt werden. Die Verbrennungskraftmaschine hat mindestens eine Antriebswelle, die drehfest mit einem Kammerbauteil verbunden ist. Das Kammerbauteil umfasst mindestens eine Explosionskammer. Die Explosionskammer wird über mindestens eine Treibstoffzuführung mit Treibstoff zumindest teilgefüllt. Anschliessend wird durch eine Zündvorrichtung der in die Explosionskammer eingebrachte Treibstoff gezündet. Die Explosionskammer weist mindestens einen Auslass auf, aus dem gezündeter Treibstoff an die Umgebung entweicht. Beim Entweichen des gezündeten Treibstoffs entsteht ein Rückstoss, der ein Drehmoment auf das Kammerbauteil ausübt und dieses antreibt. Der Auslass ist bevorzugt düsenartig ausgebildet Das Kammerbauteil überträgt dieses Drehmoment auf die Antriebswelle. Nach dem der Treibstoff verbrannt ist, wird die Explosionskammer erneut mit Treibstoff zumindest teilgefüllt, der dann wieder gezündet werden kann.

[0006] Die Treibstoffzuführung umfasst bevorzugt mindestens eine kanalartige Ausnehmung in der Antriebswelle. Die kanalartige Ausnehmung kann insbesondere eine vom einem Ende der Antriebswelle axial in diese eingebrachte Sackbohrung umfassen. Die kanalartige Ausnehmung kommuniziert bevorzugt mit einem Treibstoffkanal des Kammerbauteils. Durch die kanalartige Ausnehmung und gegebenenfalls den Treibstoffkanal kann der Treibstoff sehr einfach in die rotierende Explosionskammer des Kammerbauteils eingebracht werden, weil die kanalartige Ausnehmung über eine Drehkupplung mit einem Treibstoffreservoir gekoppelt werden kann. Eine an dem Kammerbauteil ansetzende viel aufwändigere Drehkupplung kann somit entfallen.

[0007] Im Bereich der kanalartigen Ausnehmung und/oder der Drehkupplung ist bevorzugt mindestens ein Rückschlagventil, um ein Rückschlagen der Explosion in das Treibstoffreservoir zu verhindern.

[0008] Vor der Zündung ist der Treibstoff in der Explosionskammer bevorzugt kompressionslos, d. h. 0,85.p0 < pK < 1,15.p0 wobei p0 den Druck ausserhalb der Explosionskammer und pK den Druck des Treibstoffs in der Explosionskammer bezeichnet. Somit herrscht vor der Zündung in der Explosionskammer zumindest in etwa das Druckniveau, welches ausserhalb der Explosionskammer herrscht. Dadurch erreicht man relativ geringe Verbrennungstemperaturen und der Kühlungsaufwand bleibt gering.

[0009] Das Kammerbauteil umfasst vorzugsweise mindestens eine koaxial auf der Antriebswelle sitzende Explosionsscheibe, wobei die Explosionsscheibe mindestens eine Ausnehmung aufweist, welche als Explosionskammer dient. Eine solche Explosionskammer ermöglicht es sehr einfach, den Treibstoff in die Explosionskammer einzuführen und zu zünden, wobei der gezündete Treibstoff durch eine z. B. seitliche Öffnung der Explosionskammer entweicht, um durch den dabei entstandenen Rückstoss ein Drehmoment zu erzeugen und auf die Antriebswelle zu übertragen.

[0010] Bevorzugt ist die Explosionskammer in axialer Richtung, bevorzugt beidseits, durch mindestens eine Abdeckplatte verschlossen. Eine solche Abdeckplatte ermöglicht eine einfache Montage und nö tigenfalls Revision der Explosionskammer bzw. der ganzen Explosionsscheibe.

[0011] Insbesondere können die Abdeckplatte bzw. die Abdeckplatten einen Treibstoffkanal der Treibstoffzuführung und/und zumindest Teile der Zündvorrichtung aufweisen. Dies ermöglicht einen besonders robusten und wartungsfreundlichen Aufbau des Kammerbauteils.

[0012] Der Treibstoffkanal zu der Explosionskammer weist bevorzugt mindestens ein Ventil auf, das zumindest während der Verbrennung des Treibstoffs geschlossen ist, z. B. ein Rückschlagventil. Dadurch kann ein Rückschlagen der Verbrennung in ausserhalb des Kammerbauteils angeordnete Teile der Treibstoffzuführung verhindert werden. Dies ermöglicht es, in dem Treibstoffkanal ein zündfähiges Treibstoffgemisch zu der Explosionskammer zu führen. Folglich genügt es, einen sich gegebenenfalls verzweigenden Treibstoffkanal und/oder einen Treibstoffauslass pro Explosionskammer vorzusehen.

[0013] Das Ventil weist vorzugsweise einen federbelasteten Ventilstössel auf, der bei Rotation des Kammerbauteils zum Öffnen und/oder zum Schliessen des Ventils durch mindestens einen Steuernocken verschoben wird. Der Steuernocken ist bevorzugt an einem Gehäuse der Verbrennungskraftmaschine angeordnet und rampenartig ausgebildet. Der Steuernocken kann an einer Steuerscheibe ausgebildet sein, die mit dem Gehäuse verbunden ist. Bevorzugt ist die Position des Steuernockens einstellbar, um den Öffnungszeitpunkt des Ventils steuern zu können, d. h. die Position des Ventils relativ zu dem Gehäuse, an dem es geöffnet ist. Der Öffnungszeitpunkt kann besonders einfach eingestellt werden, wenn der Steuernocken an einer Steuerscheibe ausgebildet ist und die Steuerscheibe gegen das Gehäuse verdreht werden kann. Beispielsweise kann die Steuerscheibe ringsegmentförmige Langlöcher aufweisen, die von je mindestens einem Befestigungsbolzen durchsetzt sind, so dass die Steuerscheibe bei gelösten Befestigungsbolzen gegen das Gehäuse verdrehbar und bei angezogenen Befestigungsbolzen fest mit dem Gehäuse verbunden ist.

[0014] Zur Zündung umfasst die Zündvorrichtung bevorzugt mindestens einen elektrischen Funkenerzeuger, der mit dem Kammerbauteil rotiert und über mindestens einen Drehübertrager gespeist wird. Dadurch kann der Zündzeitpunkt nahezu beliebig eingestellt werden. Selbstverständlich kann der Drehübertrager die zum Zünden notwendige Energie über Schleifkontakte und/oder induktiv vom nicht rotierenden Bezugssystem auf das darin rotierende Kammerbauteil und/oder die Zündvorrichtung übertragen. Dadurch, dass der Funkenerzeuger mit dem Kammerbauteil mitrotiert, kann die Explosionskammer sehr einfach abgedichtet werden. Ansonsten müsste man zwei gegeneinander rotierende Teile so gegeneinander Abdichten, dass selbst bei der Explosion des Treibstoffs in den Explosionskammern keine nennenswerten Druckverluste auftreten. Zudem müsste die Abdichtung der explosionsartigen Verbrennung des Treibstoffs in der Explosionskammer dauerhaft standhalten.

[0015] Die Treibstoffzuführung umfasst bevorzugt mindestens eine Leitung und/oder ein Abschnitt einer Leitung die bzw. der im Bereich des Kammerbauteils gegen die Explosionskammer thermisch isoliert. Das ermöglicht es in dieser Leitung bzw. diesem Abschnitt ein zündfähiges Treibstoffgemisch zu transportieren, ohne dass es zu einer die Treibstoffzuführung beschädigenden Selbstentzündung des Treibstoffgemisches in der Treibstoffzuführung kommt. Thermisch isoliert bedeutet hier z. B., dass zwischen der Explosionskammer und der Treibstoffzuführung eine Isolierschicht ist. Die gleiche Wirkung kann auch durch eine aktive Kühlung mindestens eines Teils der Treibstoffzuführung erreicht werden. Insbesondere kann die Treibstoffzuführung koaxial von einer Kühlleitung ummantelt sein. Natürlich können Kühlung und Isolation auch kombiniert werden.

[0016] Bevorzugt wird in die Explosionskammern nicht nur ein zündfähiger Treibstoff, sondern auch eine Flüssigkeit einfüllt, die durch die bei der Verbrennung des Treibstoffs entstehende Wärme zumindest teilweise verdampft und ebenfalls durch den Auslass entweicht. Beim Verdampfen der Flüssigkeit findet eine starke Volumenvergrösserung statt, so dass die nun gasförmige Flüssigkeit durch den Auslass ausgestossen wird was den Rückstoss und damit das an der Antriebswelle anliegende Drehmoment erhöht. Zudem wird durch das Verdampfen der Flüssigkeit die bei der Explosion entstehende Hitze reduziert und somit der Wirkungsgrad erhöht. Die Flüssigkeit kann insbesondere Wasser sein, welches vorzugsweise so in die Explosionskammer eingespritzt wird, dass es zumindest teilweise vernebelt. Besonders bevorzugt wird zunächst die Flüssigkeit, z. B. als Nebel, in die Brennkammer eingefüllt und erst anschliessend die Explosionskammer mit dem Treibstoff zumindest teilgefüllt. Dadurch kann die Explosionskammer vor dem Einfüllen des Treibstoffs soweit gekühlt werden, dass eine Selbstentzündung des Treibstoffes an heissen Verbrennungsprodukten der vorhergegangenen Verbrennung oder noch heissen Kammerwänden ausgeschlossen wird. Bei der anschliessenden Verbrennung des Treibstoffs verdampft dann die Flüssigkeit mit den oben genannten Vorteilen.

[0017] Dementsprechend umfasst die Verbrennungskraftmaschine vorzugsweise mindestens eine Kühlmittelleitung mit mindestens einem Auslass in der Explosionsklammer, um eine Flüssigkeit, die bei der Explosion des Treibstoffs zumindest teilweise verdampft, in die Explosionskammer einzubringen. Dadurch kann wie oben beschrieben der Wirkungsgrad erhöht werden.

[0018] Der in der Explosionskammer mündende Auslass der Kühlmittelleitung ist bevorzugt als Zerstäubungsdüse ausgebildet. Dadurch wird die Oberfläche der Flüssigkeit in der Explosionskammer erhöht und sie verdampft schnell und gleichmässig.

[0019] In der Kühlmittelleitung ist zudem bevorzugt mindestens ein Kühlmittelventil, z. B. ein Kühlmittelrückschlagventil um zu verhindern, dass über die Kühlmittelleitung bei der Explosion entstehender Druck nicht über den Auslass sondern über die Kühlmitteleitung abgebaut wird. Zudem kann über das Kühlmittelventil der Zeitpunkt wann die Flüssigkeit der Explosionskammer eingebracht wird sowie die Menge geregelt werden.

[0020] Insbesondere kann die Kühlmittelleitung derart ausgebildet sein, dass zwischen dem in der Explosionskammer mündenden Auslass und dem Kühlmittelventil nach Abschluss des Einbringens der Flüssigkeit eine Flüssigkeitssäule stehen bleibt. Dann schützt die aus Sicht der Explosionskammer vor dem Ventil stehende Flüssigkeitssäule das Kühlmittelventil und dahinter liegende Bauteile vor hoher thermischer Belastung durch die bei der Explosion des Treibstoffs entstehende Wärme.

[0021] Bevorzugt ist die Kühlmittelleitung in dem Kammerbauteil ausgebildet. Beispielsweise kann die Kühlmittelleitung U-förmig ausgebildeten Abschnitt in dem Kammerbauteil aufweisen, wobei der Boden des "U" radial nach aussen weist. Dadurch bleibt bei rotierendem Kammerbauteil in dem "U" eine Flüssigkeitssäule stehen, welche in dem der Mündung der Kühlmittelleitung abgewandten Schenkel der Kühlmittelleitung angeordnete Bauteile, wie z. B. ein Kühlmittelrückschlagventil, oder daran angeschlossene Bauteile, wie z. B. eine Kühlmittelpumpe vor hoher thermischer Belastung durch die bei der Explosion des Treibstoffs entstehende Wärme schützt. Bei der Explosion wird der in dem Auslass der Kühlmittelleitung zugewandten Teil der Kühlmittelleitung stehende Teil der Flüssigkeit erwärmt. Diese vorgewärmte Flüssigkeit wird anschliessend zumindest zum Teil in die Explosionskammer eingebracht. Weil sie schon vorgewärmt ist, wird weniger Energie benötigt, um sie zu verdampfen. Dadurch kann der Wirkungsgrad weiter erhöht werden und gleichzeitig wird das Kammerbauteil durch die nachfolgende Flüssigkeit gekühlt.

[0022] Zur elektrolytischen Erzeugung von Wasserstoff aus Wasser hat man bisher metallische Elektroden eingesetzt, die jedoch sehr teuer sind. Überraschenderweise hat sich bei Versuchen herausgestellt, dass Kohlenstoffelektroden, die wesentlich günstiger sind, ebenfalls die elektrolytische Spaltung von Wasser bei einem hohen Wirkungsgrad ermöglichen. Entsprechend hat der Wasserstoffgenerator der insbesondere zur Versorgung der zuvor beschriebenen Verbrennungskraftmaschine mit einem H2-O2 Gemisch geeignet ist, eine Generatorkammer, in der mindestens zwei Kohlenstoffelektroden angeordnet sind, die mit einer Stromversorgung verbunden sind, um mit elektrischer Energie gespeist zu werden.

[0023] Beim Betrieb des Wasserstoffgenerators sinkt im Laufe der Zeit die aktive Oberfläche der Kohlenstoffelektroden. Betreibt man zusätzlich zu den Kohlenstoffelektroden auch noch je mindestens eine Metallhilfselektrode, z. B. aus Edelstahl, dann sammelt sich auf den Metallelektroden eine Kohleschicht und die aktive Oberfläche der Elektroden bleibt erhalten. Zum Reinigen der Metallhilfselektroden genügt es die Kohlenstoffelektroden kurz abzuschalten und die Metallhilfselektroden umzupolen, z. B. nur für den Bruchteil einer Sekunde. Dadurch fällt der angesammelte Kohlenstaub zu Boden und die Hilfselektroden können wieder neuen Kohlenstoff ansammeln. Bevorzugt ist die beim Umpolen an den Metallhilfselektroden anliegende Spannung unterhalb der für eine Elektrolyse von Wasser notwendigen Mindestspannung. Dadurch können die Gase (H2 und O2) mit hoher Reinheit separat aufgefangen werde.

[0024] Bevorzugt umgibt mindestens eine der Metallhilfselektroden eine der Kohlenstoffelektroden. Z. B. kann eine stabförmige Kohlenstoffelektrode koaxial in einer rohrförmigen Metallhilfselektrode sitzen.

[0025] Der Wasserstoffgenerator umfasst bevorzugt mindestens einen Notauslass der durch mindestens ein Überdruckventil verschlossen ist. Entsteht bei der Produktion der Gase ein Druck der grösser gleich dem Öffnungsdruck des Überdruckventils ist, dann wird der Druck über den Notauslass abgelassen werden. Durch den Notauslass kann insbesondere Wasser abgelassen werden, weil dadurch, anders als beim Ablassen eines der Gase oder sogar beider Gase die Brand- bzw. Explosionsgefahr nicht erhöht wird. Spätestens wenn das Wasser komplett abgegeben wurde wird die Elektrolyse unterbrochen, d. h. es wird kein Gas mehr produziert und somit auch kein weiterer Druck in dem Wasserstoffgenerator aufgebaut.

[0026] Bevorzugt umfasst der Wasserstoffgenerator bevorzugt mindestens ein Gebläse, um über den Notauslass bei Überdruck an die Umwelt abgegebenes Gas möglichst schnell stark zu verdünnen, damit die Brand- bzw. Explosionsgefahr zu reduziert wird. Das Gebläse kann insbesondere durch einen bürstenlosen Elektromotor angetrieben werden. Ein solcher Motor erzeugt keine Funken, die einen Brand bzw. eine Explosion auslösen könnte.

[0027] Bevorzugt umfasst der Wasserstoffgenerator mindestens einen Druckschalter, um die elektrolyti sche Spaltung von Wasser in H2 und O2 zu unterbrechen, wenn der Druck in dem Wasserstoffgenerator über einen vorbestimmen Wert steigt. Insbesondere kann der Druckschalter Elektroden von der Stromversorgung trennen, z. B. alle Kathoden und/oder alle Anoden. Beschreibung der Zeichnungen

[0040] fig. 1 zeigt eine Verbrennungskraftmaschine. Die Verbrennungskraftmaschine hat ein Gehäuse 50 , in welchem eine Antriebswelle 10 gelagert ist. Die Antriebswelle ragt beidseits dem Gehäuse 50 heraus. Auf einer Seite des Gehäuses 50 hat die Antriebswelle eine Passfedernut 11 um z. B. eine Riemenscheibe, eine Kupplungsscheibe, ein Zahnrad oder dgl. drehfest mit der Antriebswelle 10 zu verbinden. In dem Gehäuse 50 sitzt auf der Welle 10 ein drehfest mit dieser verbundenes Kammerbauteil 60 . Das Kammerbauteil 60 umfasst eine erste Abdeckung 20 und eine zweite Abdeckung 40 , zwischen denen eine Explosionsscheibe 30 angeordnet ist. Die Antriebswelle 10 hat als Teil einer Treibstoffzuführung eine als koaxiale Sackbohrung ausgeführte kanalartige Ausnehmung 12 (vgl. fig. 1 ), die mit einem Treibstoffkanal 42 in der zweiten seitlichen Abdeckung 40 kommuniziert. Der Treibstoffkanal 42 hat zwei radial nach aussen verlaufende Zweige, die je in ein Ventilgehäuse 44 münden. In dem Ventilgehäuse sitzt ein durch eine Ventilfeder 48 federbelasteter Ventilstössel 46 . Das Ventilgehäuse 44 , der Ventilstössel 46 und die Ventilfeder 48 bilden ein Rückschlagventil (vgl. fig. 1).

[0041] Über eine in der kanalartigen Ausnehmung 12 der Antriebswelle sitzende Einspritzdüse 80 wird ein zündfähiges Treibstoffgemisch durch die kanalartige Ausnehmung 12 und den Treibstoffkanal 42 zu den beiden Ventilen und von dort in je eine Explosionskammer 32 der Explosionsscheibe 30 geleitet. Die Einspritzdüse 80 ist drehbar in der Welle gelagert, d. h. sie rotiert nicht mit dem Welle mit, sondern dient als Anschluss für eine Treibstoffleitung. Um In jedem Fall ein Rückschlagen einer Explosion in die Treibstoffleitung zu verhindern, umfasst die Einspritzdüse ein Rückschlagventil (nicht dargestellt). Der Kraftstoffpfad von der Einspritzdüse 80 zu den Ausnehmungen 32 ist in fig. 1 durch eine mit Richtungspfeilen versehene Linie angedeutet.

[0042] fig. 5 zeigt die Explosionsscheibe 30 in der Frontansicht (links) und der Seitenansicht (rechts). Die Explosionsscheibe hat zwei Ausnehmungen 32 , die Explosionskammern. Diese sind im montierten Zustand durch die erste und die zweite seitliche Abdeckung 20 , bzw. 40 seitlich verschlossen (vgl. fig. 1 ). Die Explosionskammern 32 haben je einen düsenartig ausgebildeten Auslass 34 (vgl. fig. 5 ). Die Symmetrieachsen (nicht eingezeichnet) der düsenartigen Auslässe 34 der Explosionskammern 32 sind Sekanten des Umkreises der Explosionsscheibe 30 (in Bezug auf fig. 5 , in 3D sind es Symmetrieebenen, die die einhüllende Zylindermantelfläche des Kammerbauteils 60 schneiden). Wird ein zündfähiger Treibstoff, z. B. ein H2-O2 Gemisch, in den Explosionskammern 32 gezündet, so findet durch die dabei entstandene Wärme eine Volumenausdehnung des gezündeten Treibstoffes statt und dieser entweicht zumindest teilweise durch die Auslässe 34 der Explosionskammer 32 . Dabei entsteht ein Rückstoss, der ein Drehmoment auf die Explosionsscheibe und somit über die drehfest mit der Explosionsscheibe 30 verbundene Antriebswelle 10 ausübt und diese somit antreibt.

[0043] Zum Befüllen der Explosionskammer 32 werden die Ventile geöffnet. Dazu ist in einer Gehäuseausnehmung eine Steuerscheibe 53 , die zwei rampenartig ausgebildete Steuernocken 54 aufweist. Wenn das Kammerbauteil mit der Welle 10 in dem Gehäuse rotiert, dann werden die Ventilstössel 46 durch die Steuernocken 54 gegen die Kraft der Ventilfedern 48 verschoben, wodurch die Ventile geöffnet werden und Treibstoff in die Explosionskammern 32 strömen kann. Kurz bevor die Auslässe 34 der Explosionskammer 32 über Gehäuseauslässe 52 mit der Umwelt kommunizieren, schliessen die Ventile und anschliessend, d. h. wenn die Auslässe 34 über die Gehäuseauslässe 52 mit der Umgebung kommunizieren, wird über eine an der ersten seitlichen Ab deckplatte 20 angebrachte Zündvorrichtung 22 (nur ansatzweise dargestellt) der Treibstoff in den Explosionskammern 32 gezündet und zur Explosion gebracht. Dabei wird zumindest ein Teil des Verbrennungsproduktes durch die Auslässe 34 der Explosionskammern 32 und die Gehäuseauslässe 52 aus den Explosionskammern herausgedrückt. Jede Explosionskammer 32 wird bei jeder vollen Umdrehung der Antriebswelle 10 zwei Mal mit Treibstoff gefüllt und gezündet. In dem gezeichneten Beispiel hat die Verbrennungskraftmaschine somit zwei Arbeitstakte pro Umdrehung. Natürlich kann die Anzahl der Gehäuseauslässe und Ventile verändert werden, so dass die Verbrennungskraftmaschine nur einen oder mehr als zwei Arbeitstakte pro Umdrehung hat.

[0044] Vor der ersten seitlichen Abdeckplatte 20 sitzt eine Schleifringscheibe 70 (vgl. fig. 8 bis fig. 10 ). Die Schleifringscheibe 70 umfasst einen äusseren Schleifringkranz 72 , der starr mit dem Gehäuse verbunden ist und einen inneren Schleifringkranz 74 , der starr mit der ersten seitlichen Abdeckung 20 verbunden ist. Um den äusseren mit dem inneren Schleifringkranz elektrisch zu verbinden ist ein Schleifkontakt 76 vorgesehen (vgl. fig. 10 ). Der innere Schleifringkranz 74 ist mit den Zündvorrichtungen 22 verbunden. Die Zündvorrichtungen 22 werden durch eine Transistorzündung (nicht dargestellt) angesteuert, welche über mindestens eine Messsensor 78 die Relativposition des Kammerbauteils 60 zu dem Gehäuse 50 erfasst. Anhand dieser Information steuert die Zündung den Zündzeitpunkt.

[0046] fig. 11 zeigt einen Wasserstoffgenerator mit einem Generatorgehäuse 113 . In das Generatorgehäuse 113 wurde über einen nicht dargestellten Zulauft Wasser 114 eingefüllt. Das Generatorgehäuse 113 ist durch einen zu revisionszwecken abnehmbaren Generatorgehäusedeckel 110 verschlossen. In dem Generatorgehäuse 113 sind zwei Edelstahlelektroden 101 , 112 und zwei Kohleelektroden 102 , 111 . Dabei ist je eine Edelstahlelektrode 101 , 112 mit je einer Kohleelektrode 102 , 111 zu einem Elektrodenpaar angeordnet Das Generatorgehäuse 113 ist durch eine Trennwand 106 in zwei Teile geteilt, so dass beidseits der Trennwand 106 je ein Elektrodenpaar aus je einer Edelstahlelektrode 101 , 112 und einer Kohleelektrode 102 , 111 angeordnet ist. Die Trennwand hängt von dem Generatorgehäusedeckel 110 zwischen den beiden Elektrodenpaaren zumindest etwa bis auf Höhe der unteren Enden der Elektrodenpaare herab, so dass die beiden Teile des Generatorgehäuses 113 unterhalb der Trennwand miteinander kommunizieren.

[0047] Zum Erzeugen von H2 und O2 werden die ein Elektrodenpaar bildende Edelstahlelektrode 101 und die Kohleelektrode 102 über Anschlüsse 104 , 105 parallel mit einem Pol einer Stromquelle (nicht dargestellt) verbunden und die das andere Elektrodenpaar bildende Edelstahlelektrode 112 und die Kohleelektrode 111 mit dem anderen Pol der Stromquelle verbunden. Die Spannung zwischen den beiden Elektrodenpaaren wird auf einen Wert eingestellt der mindestens so gross ist wie der Wert der der Spannung entspricht, die zum elektrolytischen Spalten von Wasser notwendig ist. Entsprechend wird das Wasser elektrolytisch in H2 und O2 gespalten. Die Gase steigen zum Generatorgehäusedeckel 110 auf, wobei die sich die beiden Gase H2 und O2 durch die Trennwand 106 getrennt unterhalb des Generatorgehäusedeckels 110 sammeln. Dort werden sie getrennt durch Auslässe 103 und 109 abgezogen.

[0048] Während der Elektrolyse bildet sich auf den Edelstahlelektroden 101 , 112 eine Kohleschicht. Zum Entfernen der Kohleschicht von den Edelstahlelektroden 101 , 112 werden die Kohleelektroden von der Stromversorgung getrennt und die beiden Edelstahlelektroden werden umgepolt. Die beim Umpolen an den Edelstahlelektroden 101 , 112 anliegende Spannung liegt bevorzugt unter der zum elektrolytischen Spalten von Wasser notwendigen Mindestspannung, so dass während die Edelstahlelektroden 101 , 112 umgepolt sind kein O2 und kein H2 entsteht. Entsprechend wird eine Vermischung der Gase vermieden. Durch das Umpolen der zwischen an den Edelstahlelektroden 101 , 112 anliegenden Spannung löst sich die Kohleschicht von den Edelstahlelektroden 101 , 112 und fällt auf den Boden des Generatorgehäuses 113 herunter. Dort kann sie aufgesaugt werden. Nachdem die Kohleschicht zumindest zum Teil herabgefallen ist, wird die Spannung an den Edelstahlelektroden 101 , 112 erneut umgepolt und die Kohleelektroden 102 , 111 werden wieder mit der Stromversorgung verbunden. Nun wird die zwischen den Elektroden anliegende Spannung wieder ausreichend zum elektrolytischen Spalten von Wasser in O2 und H2 gewählt wodurch die Gasproduktion fortgesetzt wird.

How Does This Thing Work?

It operates on a 100 year old proven technology called electrolysis.

Whenever you place two pieces of metal in water, and apply electricity, the water separates into it's basic molecules, Hydrogen and Oxygen (H2O).

If you look at the picture on the left, you will see H2O molecules connected together in their liquid form which is WATER

The Search for an answer...

The story of how we built our own wind generator over 15 years ago follows.

This project has proven to be a great addition to our renewable energy system. In fact, we are confident that this is the fastest way for any family to get started.

When we first started out with using renewable energy for our home we took the usual route and bought a few solar panels and eventually a wind generator too.

We did all of the installation work ourselves, and soon visitors to our rather unique home were asking us to install renewable energy systems for them too.

It developed into a rather busy time for us installing solar panels and wind generators, but we still had not found an answer to the problem of how expensive it was to get started running a home with renewable energy.

You see a typical system we were installing cost about $10,000 for the average home, and the biggest expense was that wind generator coming in at about $4000 usually. That is a lot of money for most people, but it seemed like there was no alternative.

And then it happened... The answer was delivered to our door!

Literally, this is what happened. One of our deliveries of wind generators (there were 3 arriving) came to us unassembled, with a note about how it would be a simple matter for us to put the units together for our customers.

Actually, we could not believe how simple these machines really were. And then the light went on, this was our answer. Let's see if we can track down all of the parts and build our own wind generator.

After about 2 years of work and research, and untold test wind generators we finally came up with a system for building a wind generator that anyone could do... and the best part, all of the parts cost less than $100.
